It was one of those moments that took my breath away. I stood in front of the towering sandstone gorge that held the hidden treasures of Petra, an ancient city carved into rose-red stone. As I made my way through the winding pathways, my heart raced with anticipation. I had always dreamed of visiting Jordan, and here I was, living my dream in one of the world’s most beautiful places. Join me as I share my unforgettable journey to Petra, Jordan – a land of magical charm, ancient history, and a world of wonders waiting to be discovered.
The first thing I noticed as I entered Petra was the colorful hues of the rose-red rock formations. It was unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. From the towering cliffs to the narrow canyons, every angle offered something unique and breathtaking. The ancient Nabatean city, opened up before me like a maze of wonders waiting to be explored.
As I ventured further into Petra, I was amazed by the intricate carvings and architecture that stood before me. I marveled at the Treasury, Petra’s most iconic landmark. The intricate façade, cut into the rock face, was just as impressive as I had imagined. I stood in awe, taking in the beautiful details that had been etched so many centuries ago.
The Siq, the narrow gorge that leads to the Treasury, was just as impressive. The sandstone walls towered above me, creating patterns of light and shadow on the ground. The Siq was also a highlight for the movie buffs, as the scene from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was filmed here.
One of Petra’s most exciting features was the Monastery, perched high on a hilltop overlooking the valley. The hike up the winding path to reach the Monastery was challenging but totally worth it. Reaching the top felt like a moment of triumph, and the view from the Monastery was breathtaking. The panoramic scenery stretched out before me for miles, and I couldn’t help but feel lucky to experience this moment.
Finally, my trip to Petra would not have been complete without experiencing Petra by Night. The walk to the Treasury was lit by hundreds of candles, creating a magical atmosphere that took my breath away. We sat watching a traditional performance, surrounded by the beautiful wonders of Petra illuminated by the candles. It was the perfect end to a perfect day.
Petra is a place of beauty, charm, and wonder. It was an unforgettable experience, and I cannot recommend enough taking a journey to see it for yourself. The city is almost surreal, and every step you take feels like you are stepping back in time. It was a magical journey filled with new experiences and unforgettable memories.
