India is a country that has always fascinated me. And when I got the opportunity to visit Agra, the home of one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Taj Mahal, I couldn’t contain my excitement. My itinerary included a visit to Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri, but I had my eyes set on the magnificent Taj Mahal. I had heard so much about its grandeur and beauty, that I couldn’t wait to see it for myself.
My trip to Agra began with an early morning train journey from Delhi. Despite the long travel, the excitement and anticipation kept me awake throughout. As soon as I arrived at Agra, I headed straight to the Taj Mahal. Walking through the gates with the white marble structure gleaming in the sunlight was a surreal experience. The Taj Mahal is everything that I had imagined it to be and more. Its intricate carvings, magnificent arches, and beautiful gardens took my breath away. I spent hours admiring the beauty of the structure, mesmerized by its sheer grandeur.
The next stop on my Agra itinerary was the Agra Fort, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. This fort served as the residence of the Mughal emperors until the 17th century. The Agra Fort has been built with red sandstone and houses several palaces, courtyards, and gardens. The Diwan-i-Am (public audience hall) and the Diwan-i-Khas (private audience hall) were the highlights of the fort for me. The intricate designs and mosaic work left me awestruck. The Agra Fort offers a glimpse of the rich history and culture of the Mughal era.
Another interesting place that I visited in Agra was Fatehpur Sikri. This abandoned city is another UNESCO World Heritage Site and was built by Emperor Akbar in the 16th century. The city, once a bustling metropolis, now stands deserted. But the remnants are well preserved, and one can still see the beautiful red sandstone structures that have stood the test of time. The Jama Masjid, Buland Darwaza, and Panch Mahal are some of the must-visit places in Fatehpur Sikri.
My last day in Agra was spent exploring local markets and indulging in some of the delicious cuisine. The city is famous for its sweets and chaat, and I couldn’t resist trying some of them. The street food in Agra is not to be missed, especially the puri aloo and dahi bhalla. The local markets are also a shopper’s paradise, with handmade crafts, textiles, and jewelry being sold at reasonable prices.
My trip to Agra was a memorable experience, one that I will never forget. The city’s rich history and stunning architecture make it a must-visit destination in India. The Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, and Fatehpur Sikri offer an insight into the glorious Mughal era and its contributions to India’s cultural heritage. The locals were friendly, and the cuisine was delectable. I would highly recommend visiting Agra to anyone who wants to experience the grandeur of India’s past.
